Isaiah

Chapter 7

"Historical Events and Prophecies, Assyrian Invasion."

This Bible Study is written by Roger Christopherson, and it's transcription/ location is provided by http://www.theseason.org

Isaiah 7:1 "And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, the king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it."

This is not genealogies given without a purpose, so pay attention to who we are talking about. We are talking about three different kings; King Ahaz of Judah the southern nation, King Rezin of Syria, and king Pekah of Israel which was the ten tribes to the north of Judah. The important thing to notice here is that the house of Israel and the house of Judah are two separate nations.

So we see Judah possessed Jerusalem and the kings of Syria and Israel went up to make war with Judah.

Isaiah 7:2 "And it was told the house of David, saying, "Syria is confederate with Ephraim," And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind."

Ephraim was the head tribe over the ten tribes of the house of Israel, the tribe that received the promised blessings of the Abrahamic covenant from Jacob. This is recorded in Genesis 14:20 "And he blessed them that day, saying, "In thee shall Israel bless saying, 'God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh:' and he set Ephraim before Manasseh."

We see here then that Syria and the house of Israel have become buddies, and are planning to war against the two tribes of the house of Judah. Those tribes were Judah and Benjamin, with a small part of Levi mixed in with them. The people of the house of Judah were moved when they heard of the war being planned against them, and they promised all kinds of things to this Syrian king to please him, and prevent the war.

We have two brother kings here, Ahaz of Judah and Pekah of Israel, and Pekah has enlisted a foreign king to help with his war against his own brother. God just doesn't like going outside the family to settle family problems. This is a civil war between two parts of the whole house of Israel, made up on all the tribes.

Isaiah 7:3 "Then said the Lord unto Isaiah, "Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shearjashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field;"

In the Hebrew tongue, "Shearjeshub" means "the remnant shall return". So we see that God is instructing Isaiah to go to Ahaz of Judah with a message the "the remnant shall return". There is a message and not a son that Isaiah is bringing with him to the king.

The conduit was the waterway that brought the water into the city from an outside resevour, and the fuller's field was were the people did their laundry. "Fuller soap" was good old lye soap used for cleaning their clothes.

Isaiah 7:4 "And say unto him, 'Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah."

Isaiah, you go down and tell king Azah that your brother is planning something against you, and he has received help from king Rezin of Syria, and they are planning to hurt all of Judah. Isaiah told the king, don't be scared of this action that is planned against you. God called Syria and Israel a "firebrand", which is nothing but a smoking stick left when the fire has gone out. It is a smoking stick with a little coal on the end of it. It will still burn you, but the danger of the fire has long past.

God is telling Azah that all you have here is a couple of play actors, because the fire is already gone out of them. Don't be afraid of them.

Isaiah 7:5 "Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,"

Isaiah 7:6 "Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal:"

"Tabeal" is the son of Rezin, the king of Syria, and here the king of Israel is willing to give Jerusalem and the house of Judah over to the Syrians, and sell out their own kin. The plan is to "vex it", which is to terrify Azah into submission to them, and then to dismantle the house of Judah.

Isaiah 7:7 "Thus saith the Lord God, 'It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass."

God is saying that He is not going to allow it to come to pass.

Isaiah 7:8 "For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people."

Damascus was the capital then as it is also today. King Rezin ruled from Damascus, and God is telling king Azah of Judah through Isaiah that within threescore and five years, Ephraim which carried the name of the house of Israel will be scattered. In sixty five years the people of the house of Israel will lose their identity, and be removed from out of their land.

By 722 B.C. the house of Israel was beaten by these same Assyrians that they planned to terrify and overthrow the nation of Judah. The Assyrians took them from the Palestine area, to a place just north of lake Van in northern Iraq, and from there the ten tribes of the house of Israel passed through the Caucasus Mountians to lose their identy to this day. They became know as "caucasians' after the event of the people that passed through the Caucasus mountains. They splintered into groups, and on the whole were known as Celtic people, however they also took on names such as Scythians, Brits, Saxons, Gaels, Cimmerons, Sakka, and many other names, however they all were of the house of Israel, the ten tribes that had planned evil against their brothers of the house of Judah.

To this day the people of the house of Israel don't know who they are, they are blind with their eyes and can't see where they came from. Even today our people say they don't know where the roots of our people came from that migrated from Europe to America, and Canada. They admit that God promised that Abraham's seed would be as numerous as the stars of heaven and the sands of the sea, yet they try to stretch poor Judah to fit their own false illusions. Hosea talked about this in Hosea 1:9, 10.

Hosea 1:9 "Then said God, "Call his name Lo-ammi: for ye are not My People, and I will not be your God."

God took His name from them not only by the scattering, but from the knowledge of who they are, and where they came from. This happened within just a very few generations of being removed from their lands.

Hosea 1:10 "Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, 'Ye are not My People,' there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God."

This group of the house of Israel splintered into small groups that migrated into different parts of the world, and grew to form many nations in Europe, the Americas, and around the world. Yet, where ever they are, and by what ever name they are identified, the one name that they will be known by is "sons of the living God". Jesus Christ is the living God, and those that identify with Him are called "Christians". They are the Christian nations in the world today.

So we see there are two ways of identifing this so-called lost ten tribes of the house of Israel. One is by the event of passing through the Caucasus mountians, using the name "Caucasians", and the other is by their identifing themselves with the living and true God, Jesus Christ by the name "Christians". God knows exactly were every one of His people are, even though they don't know themselves. To this day most Christians don't know who they are or where they came from and they look to that tiny nation of Israel, established in 1948 to represent the house of Israel, even thought the things said about Israel in the end times doesn't fit the discription of any part of the house of Judah, which is that tiny nation.

Isaiah 7:9 "And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.' ' "

"Samaria" is the capital city of the nation of the house of Israel. God is saying that you will never be found to become a people, or nation again. We know that they will be re-established as a nation in the Millennium age, but not in this age of the flesh.

Isaiah 7:10 "Moreover the Lord spake again unto Ahaz, saying,"

Ahaz is the king of the house of Judah.

Isaiah 7:11 "Ask thee a sign of the Lord thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above."

You can ask for your sign to be given even in the heavens, or in hell below.

Isaiah 7:12 "But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, neither will I tempt the Lord." "

Though God asked Ahaz to name something he desired to be a sign through Isaiah, Ahaz was afraid to tempt God by asking for a sign.

Isaiah 7:13 "And he said, "Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?"

Isaiah is asking Ahaz and telling the house of Judah; don't you mess with God, you simply cannot make Him worry.

Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold a virgin shall concieve, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."

Because Ahaz would not name the sign to test God, God is going to give them a sign anyhow. The name "Immanuel" in the Hebrew tongue is "God with us". We see here a picture of the coming of the true king that will be born of a virgin, and his name is Jesus. This sign was sent about two thousand years ago in the little town of Bethlem.

Luke 1:26 "And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from god unto a city of Galilee named Nazareth,"

Luke 1:27 "To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgins name was Mary."

Luke 1:28 "And the angel came in unto he, and said, "Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women." "

Luke 1:29 "And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be."

Luke 1:30 "And the angel said unto her, "Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God."

Luke 1:31 "And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a Son, and shalt call His name JESUS."

This prophecy of Isaiah to Azah the king of Judah was given just under eight hundred years before the time of Christ, and we read that it came to pass exactly as spoken by God. That king that was born to the virgin Mary brought salvation, so that the house of Israel that was separated by and from God could be brought back to God. That is why they now call themselves Christians and not Israelites.

Jesus Christ came to earth through the womb of a virgin the first time to die on the cross, to atone for the sins of those that would believe on His name. At His second advent, however He comes in all the power and glory of God. He will come as King of Kings and Lord of Lords to set up His Millennium kingdom.

Luke 1:32 "He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord god shall give unto Him the throne of His father David:"

Luke 1:33 "And He shall riegn over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end." "

Isaiah 7:15 "Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good."

This is just good common sense, and this is a natural instinct born in every child. Most of the time when a child goes bad, it stems from a lack of discipline. Usually when a child grows up well tested from a battered childhood, they grow up to be a better person. What this verse is saying is that you will get what you sow, and if you fool around with the evil, that is what will come back on you. When you sow to things that are righteous and good, then that is the kind of life that you will have.

The butter spoken of here was not the type of butter like we use today, but curds of milk that was carried in the desert. It was more like our cheese of today.

Isaiah 7:16 "For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings."

Isaiah is letting king Azah know that before this Child "Immanuel" is born, both the king of Assyria and the king of Israel will be gone and out of their land. Remember when Jesus walked on the earth in His flesh body, both Israel and Assyrian kings were no where to be found in the middle east.

Isaiah 7:17 "The Lord shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father's house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king to Assyria."

It was Assyria that was the house of Israel's downfall, and there is no way that you can understand bible prophecy without understanding bible history. The reason for stating this is recorded in I Corinthians 10:11; "Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come."

Everything that is coming to pass in our generation is a type of what has happened before and written by the prophets in His Word. When we get to Isaiah 14 we will see that the "Assyrian" is the very type of Satan in the role of Antichrist. It is also the Antichrist that will take over the so-called children of God, that call themselves and profess to be Christians, as well as the rest of the people of the world.

Isaiah 7:18 "And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria."

God is warning you that in that day, which is not to far away from us in our generation, that Satan the Assyrian and his locust army of fallen angels will come at you like a swarm of flies and bees, and surround your every move. Historically this event did happen, and it shall happen again.

Isaiah 7:19 "And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes."

This is the locust army spoken of in the book of Joel, and Revelation 9. They shall come when Michael kicks them out of heaven, to come to earth.

Revelation 12:7 "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,"

Revelation 12:8 "And prevailed not, neither was their place found any more in heaven."

Revelation 12:9 "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

This time when Satan and those millions of fallen angels arrive on earth is in our generation. This nation of fallen angels will set up their world wide government in Jerusalem, and Satan will rule from the location where Christ will later set up His kingdom.

Joel 1:5 "Awake, ye drundards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth."

The "new wine is the truth from God's Word and it will be done away with at this time, except of what is sealed in the minds of God's elect. Why? Most Christians will believe Satan to be the true Christ. They have been taught this form their church house and their parents, for it is part of their traditions that they have placed before the Word of God.

Joel 1:6 "For a nation is come up upon My land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion."

This nation is made up of those fallen angels of Satan that are going to be cast out unto the earth, and they will be without number. They will come upon Jerusalem, and the middle east to establish their rule, and from Jerusalem they will cover the earth. The rest of the book of Joel reveals exactly how it shall be during that time on earth when the truth of God's Word is dried up, and the things of God are withheld from the house of your God. This is the time when these angels will be on earth, appearing as men in the flesh, only their sting will be as the sting of the scorpion, in relation to flesh man's inablility to defend themselves from Satan's deceptions.

So we see this is the same prophecy of the locust army that comes against the entire world in just a matter of months or a few years. They are coming to earth.

Isaiah 7:20 "In the same day shall the Lord shave with a rasor that is hired, namely, by them beyound the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall also consume the beard."

God is warning the house of Israel and Assyria that He is going to shave everything off the land that you own. If you have been shaved on the head, your beard, your chest, and even the toes on your feet, they you have been shaved close. This is sheering the sheep very close. Historically this is exactly what happened to both Israel and Assyria, and in the near future this is also exactly what shall happen again.

When Satan comes in the role of Antichrist, or instead of Christ that is also what is going to happen.

Joel 2:1 "Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is night at hand;"

We are to sound the alarm "blow the trumpet" and warn the people of what is about to happen. The "day of the Lord is coming" and all the events of the end times are about to start. However today they are will on their way. The warning is to God's elect to seal their minds and prepare for the coming of those events.

Joel 2:2 "A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generation."

The fire that will burn represents the lies and deceptions that will come from Satan, the instead of Christ, and his locust army of fallen angels. Before them is the ripe fields of mankind ready to be harvested for the Lord, and that army of deception passes it will appear as a "desolate wilderness". That army will come before the "day of the Lord", for they come to earth at the sounding of the sixth trumpet of Revelation, while our Lord returns at the seventh and last trumpet. If you are rapped up in the rapture doctrine, or "any moment doctrine" you are being set up to fall for the false Christ who shall come first.

Joel 2:3 "A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them."

Upon Satan's arrival with his locust army of fallen angels, they will shave away, plunder, take complete control of all mankind. The beauty of the Word of God will be gone from the church house, from the minds of the people, and from the entire earth, except what is sealed in the minds of God's elect at that time.

Isaiah 7:21 "And it shall come to pass in that day, that a man shall nourish a young cow, and two sheep;"

This is very poor farming when you have to make a living on the prophets of one cow and two sheep.

Isaiah 7:22 "And it shall come to pass, for the abundance of milk that they shall give he shall eat butter: for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the land."

In other words, when that total eclipse of Satan's deception overshadows the world, God's elect with just one cow and two sheep will still have more butter [curds] and honey then they can eat and consume.

This is saying that there will be so few people left to partake of the true food when the Assyrian, or Antichrst arrives, that there will be more then enough of God's Word to go around to those that are of the Elect. It will be like living off the fat of the land, because you will be one of the very few that even desire to partake of God's provision. The pasture is so void of people to feed there, that for the remnant there is more then enough provision.

Who is this talking about? Who is this Immanuel and what would His food be? This is the same food offered from the single cow and the two sheep. It means that those that follow the true Immanuel, Jesus Christ will have plenty to eat. It means that God will be there with them through the entire ordeal. "Immanuel" meaning "God with us". It is time now to hunger for the food of the Word of God, for the time is coming when it will not be out there. It will be sealed in your mind, or you simply will not have it. This is talking about the famine of the end times.

Amos 8:11 "Behold the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord."

Friend, today we hear those words of the Lord by studying His Word. This is telling us that in the time of the trubulation we will be prosperous, and there will be plenty of food to eat, however the only spiritual food that you will get is what you can store up there now, before Satan's coming. Don't you trust Him to provide for you? He is saying that now is the time to store up spiritual food, for the shortage then is of hearing the word of God, while the food you eat will be plenty.

Isaiah 7:23 "And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place shall be, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings it shall even be for briers and thorns."

In that day, one vine was worth one silverling, if you were to get your rent from it. It was the price of a good vineyard. This is speaking of the spiritual vines, and what is left in the vineyard is nothing but a bunch of thorns to most people. Remember the parable of the sower? It is Satan that takes the truth that is hidden amongst the thorns? It is Satan.

Remember back in Isaiah 5 God stated that the vineyard of the house of the Lord was the House of Israel, the Christian nations made up from the ten tribes. God is saying that this vineyard that was valuable will be worthless at the coming of Satan. This is because they are misled from the truth of God's Word.

Isaiah 7:24 "With arrows and bows shall men come thither; because all the land shall become briers and thorns."

Isaiah 7:25 "And on all hills that shall be digged with the mattock, there shall not come thither the fear of briers and thorns: but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of lesser cattle."

"digged with the mattock" means "the land is going out of cultivation". "Sending forth of oxen and for the treading of lesser cattle", means that the land will not bear because it will be trodden over by the lesser cattle."

So what this is saying in verse twenty four is that without sharp arrows and bows, you would not dare to venture out for fear of what is in the world. God is telling you that there is not going to be any peace during the time of Antichrist. We are a matter of months to a few years of this time coming to pass, and look around you today as see the generation of the end times. This is the generation of the parable of the fig tree. That time started way back in 1948 when the tiny nation of Israel was established. It is then that the house of Judah returned to Palestine to reestablish their nation. It is the time when the two baskets of figs, both the good figs [of Judah] and the bad figs [those Kenites that are mixed up with Judah] set up their Hebrew nation.

We are approaching a time when you do not venture out without protection. These are dangerous times when even in the rural areas crimes are being committed that were limited in past years to the inner cities. God is saying that the world should be a "vineyard of peace", only that same world has become full of thorns and briers."

Man's mind is being distorted with his confederation with Satan, and his children, the Kenites. Much of the world is worshipping Satan in ignorance, because it is in love with the world's traditions. All people can think about today is the law of survival, and pampering to their flesh bodies. However they have forgotten that there is a life that goes far beyond their flesh life, and their life for the eternity is created right here while they are living in this flesh age. Now is the time you select the conditions that your soul will live in throughout the spans of eternity. You choose good or you choose evil.

When you take in the curds and the honey, the food of the prophets, you will choose the good. For you are studying God's Word written by the prophets for you and I. You had better listen to the prophets today, for this is the same food that Christ partook of, when He said over and over "It is written". Friend, you will either partake of that food and be prepared for the time just ahead, or your vineyard will be stoney, and filled with thorns and briers. There is no reason to fear the future, of everything that will come to pass is given to you in advance, but you have to study and place it into your mind, that is being sealed in your forehead, and protected during the great tribulation of deception.
