Holy Anointing Oil

The very name Jesus Christ has within it, the word "anointed".  Every Christian therefore takes on the meaning of this name also.  You as a Christian, are anointed in the name of Jesus Christ. Olive oil is the oil of our people.

Jesus
2424
Iesous (ee-ay-sooce'); of Hebrew origin [OT:3091]; Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites:KJV - Jesus.

Christ
5547
Christos (khris-tos'); from NT:5548; anointed, i.e. the Messiah, an epithet of Jesus:
KJV - Christ.

Jesus Christ is the anointed one:

Acts 10:38

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Note the single KJV expression 'anointed' in Acts 10:38 translates to multiple Greek words 'chrio' and 'autos':

5548
chrio (khree'-o); probably akin to NT:5530 through the idea of contact; to smear or rub with oil, i.e. (by implication) to consecrate to an office or religious service:
KJV - anoint.

846
autos (ow-tos'); from the particle au [perhaps akin to the base of NT:109 through the idea of a baffling wind] (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative NT:1438) of the third person and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:
KJV - her, it (-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, ([self-], the) same, ([him-, my-, thyself, [your-] selves, she, that, their (-s), them ([-selves]), there [-at, -by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with], they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare NT:848.

Here are just some examples of what olive oil represents in God's Word:

Christ's name means "Christos" or "the anointed" one
An olive leaf was first carried by the dove to the ark
Olive oil was used to anoint kings, priests and prophets
Olive oil was used to light the tabernacle
Olive oil was used to anoint all the holy items within the tabernacle and the congregation of the tabernacle
Olive oil was used to anoint the unleavened bread
Olive oil was used to represent prosperity
Olive oil was used to anoint the rock Jacob slept upon in which the Lord blessed his seed
Olive oil was used to anoint for healing
Olive oil was used to represent adoration, dedication to the Lord
Olive oil was used as a symbol of the Christian people
Olive oil is the truth in the lamps of the 10 virgins in that last hour
At the last trump, when Christ returns his feet will touch the mount of Olives

Kings, Priests and Prophets were anointed with olive oil or ointment of olive oil.  This olive oil was to be used specifically as a holy anointing oil.

The holy anointing oil was used for use in the anointing of the tabernacle of the congregation, the table and all his vessels, the candlestick and his vessels, and the altar of incense. It was also used for the altar of burnt offering and all his vessels and the laver and his foot.  God told the children of Israel that this holy anointing oil was to be used throughout their generations in obedience to Him:

Exodus 30:25-33

And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.

And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith, and the ark of the testimony,

And the table and all his vessels, and the candlestick and his vessels, and the altar of incense,

And the altar of burnt offering with all his vessels, and the laver and his foot.

And thou shalt sanctify them, that they may be most holy: whatsoever toucheth them shall be holy.

And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office.

And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations.

Upon man's flesh shall it not be poured, neither shall ye make any other like it, after the composition of it: it is holy, and it shall be holy unto you.

Whosoever compoundeth any like it, or whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger, shall even be cut off from his people.

anointed
4888
mishchah (meesh-khaw'); or moshchah (mosh-khaw'); from OT:4886; unction (the act); by implication, a consecratory gift:
KJV - (to be) anointed (-ing), ointment.

4886
mashach (maw-shakh'); a primitive root; to rub with oil, i.e. to anoint; by implication, to consecrate; also to paint:
KJV - anoint, paint.

Breaking down Exodus 30:30 further with the Strong's concordance word translations for understanding:

Exodus 30:30

And thou shalt anoint (4886 mashach (maw-shakh'); a primitive root; to rub with oil, i.e. to anoint; by implication, to consecrate; also to paint: KJV-- anoint, paint.)

Aaron (75 'Aharown (a-har-one'); of uncertain derivation; Aharon, the brother of Moses: KJV-- Aaron.

and his sons, (121 ben (bane); from 1129; a son (as a builder of the family name), in the widest sense )

and consecrate ( 6942 qadash (kaw-dash'); a primitive root; to be (causatively, make, pronounce or observe as) clean (ceremonially or morally): sanctify)

them, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office. (3547 kahan (kaw-han'); a primitive root, apparently meaning to mediate in religious services; to officiate as a priest; figuratively, to put on regalia)

We see in Leviticus 21:10-12 another example of the holy anointing oil being used for the priesthood:

Leviticus 21:10-12

And he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes;

Neither shall he go in to any dead body, nor defile himself for his father, or for his mother;

Neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the LORD.

In the New Testament we are told those who are mature in God's Word are able to anoint those who are afflicted that they might be healed both body and soul.

James 5:13-16

Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

For personal use pour extra virgin olive oil into a small vile and ask the Father to bless it.  You can carry it with you to use if a fellow Christian asks you for a healing, or if you want to bless your home, or a loved one in Jesus name. Remember it is not the oil that does the healing or the blessing, it is our Heavenly Father, YHVH.
