Chapter 102

"Continuation of Chapter 101:

"Rest for the Earth Celebrated."

"The King, in His Humiliation."

This Bible Study is is provided by http://www.theseason.org/ and shared with permission from it's author R. Christopherson

This chapter show that the King Himself set the example for us through His humiliation. He was perfect, and we fall way short of that example in our sinning. However, when we repent, He is there to forgive us of those sins. Thank God for His mercy. So this chapter is a prayer of the afflicted crying out his complaint to the Lord. When your depressed and everything is at the bottom, there is only one way to turn; then come to this Psalm and cry out for help from the Lord. It was written for the purpose of teaching us humility.

Psalms 102:1 "Hear my prayer, O Lord, And let my cry come unto Thee."

This prayer is to the true God, and the way you can tell if your prayer is to the true God, is if it comes to pass. Our Heavenly Father is not looking for a read speech prayer, or a chant, but an earnest prayer from your heart.

Psalms 102:2 "Hide not Thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; Incline thine ear unto me: In the day when I call answer me speedily."

Our Father will never hide Himself from you when you are seeking Him in time of trouble. Satan will but our Father won't. We read in Matthew 18:10, 11; "Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of My Father Which is in heaven." "For the Son of manis come to save that which was lost." If you are truly one of God's elect, you have an angel, at this very moment watching you and ready to help when you call out to the Lord. He has the face of God at any time you are in trouble. Yet Satan will use the voices of his angels to try to get you away from the true God. Watch out what voices you listen to, for if their speech goes against the Word of God, it is not of God.

Psalms 102:3 "For my days are consumed like smoke, And my bones are burned as an hearth."

Lord, I feel as worthless as charred wood, I'm depressed and at my lowest point mentally. I need help Father. How far does the Lord have to take you, and correct you before you realize that you are out of His Will, and off the righteous path?

Psalms 102:4 "My heart is smitten, and withered like grass; So that I forget to eat my bread."

I'm so down that I have lost my appetite and food just doesn't look good to me.

Psalms 102:5 "By reason of the voice of my groaning My bones cleave to my skin."

I'm becoming so skinning that you can see my bones through my skin.

Psalms 102:6 "I am like a pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the desert."

Both the pelican and the owl are unclean birds, and this is saying that I feel filthy as an unclean bird before you, Father. If you do feel this way, it humbles you before God. If you feel this way, you have been listening to other voices, and not the voice of our Heavenly Father.

Psalms 102:7 "I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top."

This is talking about a mortal man, but it is using nature to relate our feelings before the Father. We are trying to understand the feelings of man when he has drifted away from God. The sparrow is call the bird of least value in the Bible, of all of God's creation of birds. The house top is where the watchman stands looking out for the enemy's approach, and that is why it starts "I watch". So it is saying, "as a watchman standing his post, I am like this little sparrow sitting on a house top all by myself." When you are in the Lord, you are never by yourself. When you get into this frame of mind, you are listening to evil spirits and you are not in tune with Father and you are heading for trouble. It means that you have isolated yourself from the rest of God's family.

Psalms 102:8 "Mine enemies reproach me all the day; And they that are mad against me are sworn against me."

In the Hebrew text this is saying, "they are banded together against me, and they have sworn against me." This is true, for when you are depressed and down, you do feel like the whole world is against you and out to get you. Remember, you are not to be on the world's path in the first place. The Father's path, and Satan's path are heading in different directions. So don't start feeling sorry for yourself when you feel like you don't fit into this world's pattern.

Psalms 102:9 "For I have eaten ashes like bread, And mingled my drink with weeping,"

This is addressing that time when; I've been down and weeping and feeling sorry for myself.

Psalms 102:10 "Because of Thine indignation and Thy wrath: For Thou hast lifted me up, and cast me down."

Why is there ups and downs in your life? Because God will make corrections in your life when you strayed away from His path for your life. If God cast you down, you had that correction coming. Our God is a fair God, and use His correction in your life to get back to your feet and straighten yourself out. Look for those mistakes you made, and learn from them, then you will know why you are down, but not out. Thank God for His correction, for He is showing His love for you. Watch out for self pride, and that holier than thou attitude, or you will end up outside the flock.

Psalms 102:11 "My days are like a shadow that declineth; And I am withered like grass."

This is talking about your flesh and flesh only.

Psalms 102:12 "But Thou, O Lord, shalt endure for ever; And Thy remembrance unto all generations."

I know my flesh will whither away, and not be on this earth to long. Sure I am only here for a short time, but You Father are here for ever.

Psalms 102:13 "Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: For the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come."

Our Lord did arise, and he does have mercy on all that come to Him. Historically this is talking about all those that truly understood that 70 years that Judah would be in Babylonian captivity. There was a set time for that captivity, and then the Babylonian captivity would come to an end.

In the prophetic sense there is also a set time in the future that we are approaching, when our Lord Jesus Christ will come and have His mercy upon Zion. That set time starts at the sounding of the seventh trumpet, which is not far off. Only the Father knows that exact time and date, our Lord Jesus Christ's coming. Father has given us warnings through His seals and trumpets, and examples from the bible to where we as watchmen can know when we are approaching that time. Are you awake enough to know that events that mark the ending of our days, and the coming of our Lord? Are you mentally prepared for the coming of the Lord?

Psalms 102:14 "For Thy servants take pleasure in her stones, And favour the dust thereof."

God's servants are those with spiritual eyes to see and ears to hear the truth with understanding. We will take great pleasure in seeing the rebuilding stones of our Lord's Temple being put in place. These are the stones that will rebuild Zion, and the very dust itself will be favored, because that dust is from Mount Zion. God made an eternal covenant with mount Zion and Jerusalem, and that is where Jesus Christ's temple will stand. That Covenant is given in Ezekiel 16:8; "Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was a time of love; and I spread My skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord God, and thou becamest Mine." This is a marriage between God and Jerusalem, the holy city. This is where the new temple will be build, and the stone will be placed.

Psalms 102:15 "So the heathen shall fear the name of the Lord, And all the kings of the earth Thy glory."

Those that have never heard of the Lord will have a chance to accept Him. They will revere the name of the Lord, at His coming. Even in the eternity, those kings and queens of all races shall bring their people to the temple of our Lord, and worship Him there. In speaking of the gates of the temple of Jesus Christ's kingdom in the Millennium age, we read in Revelation 21:24; "And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it."

Revelation 21:25 "And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there."

Revelation 21:26 "And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations unto it."

Revelation 21:27 "And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but the which are written in the Lamb's book of life."

Psalms 102:16 "When the Lord shall build up Zion, He shall appear in His glory."

When that seventh trump sounds, the Lord Jesus Christ will appear in all His glory, and His feet shall touch down on Mount Zion. He will come with a rod of Iron to rule the nations.

Revelation 19:11 "And I saw heaven open, and behold, a white horse; and He That sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He doth judge and make war."

When that seventh trump sounds, the entire world will witness Jesus' return to this earth along with his army of saints. There will be no crooked judges and politicians in Christ's kingdom on earth.

Revelation 19:15 "And out of His mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: and He shall rule them with a rod of iron: and He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God."

Psalms 102:17 "He will regard the prayer of the destitute, And not despise their prayer."

Don't ever think that your prayers are never heard, for your angel has the eye of the Lord whenever you are in need. If your prayers are not answered, the check yourself out, to see where you have fallen short.

Psalms 102:18 "This shall be written for the generation to come: And the people which shall be created shall praise THE LORD."

"The generation to come" is speaking for the final generation of this earth age of flesh and blood men and women. This Psalms is a warning to our generation that shall see not only our Lord Jesus Christ coming, but Satan's coming also. Though most of the people of this world age will bow to Satan, there shall be people of God's creation that shall not bow a knee to the false christ. We shall praise the Lord at His Return. These are the elect of God, and at His return each of the elect shall receive their eternal rewards. Not one of them shall be judged at the great white throne judgment for they were found worthy at the seventh trump. We are living in that last Generation.

You are either going to know the truth and not bow to Satan, or you will be taken by Satan upon his coming to earth. You will not miss Satan's time on earth through some fairy-tale rapture, but all souls living in the flesh will be part of this. For those that are true to the very end, they shall praise the Lord with happiness, and for those that did bow a knee to Satan, there shall be great shame. Know this though, that not one of this final generation of God's elect will be deceived by Satan, but each of them will see through those deceptions and know Satan for the wicked man that he is.

Psalms 102:19 "For He hath looked down from the height of His sanctuary: From heaven did the Lord behold the earth;"

Sure, our Heavenly Father looks down from heaven and He sees and knows the thoughts, intents and deeds of each person living here on earth. Nothing is hid from His eyes. As we go about our business here on earth, we must be professional in our service to our Lord. First, know the plan of God, then pray that God will lead and use you to fit into His plan, and then be faithful to your duties to Him. When you approach the Father, make sure that you have forgiven everyone that has offended you, and approach Father with forgiveness in your heart. The person that most Christians forget to forgive is themselves. We are just not perfect, and when you repent, do it in Jesus name and forgive yourself also.

Psalms 102:20 "To hear the groaning of the prisoner; To loose those that are appointed to death;"

There are only two places in the scripture where this term; "Those...appointed to death" is used in the Scriptures. The Companion Bible speaks of this from the Hebrew Text. It should read, "those...the sons of death." However these "sons of death" are in the feminine, but is called "the mother of death." So who is "the mother of death"? It is that old harlot Babylon, as she raises her head up to take the people of our generation prisoners. Remember the time of this happening is just prior to the seventh trumpet.

Psalms 102:21 "To declare the name of the Lord in Zion, And His praise in Jerusalem;"

At Christ's coming we are going to declare the name of the Lord in Zion, and sing His praises in Jerusalem. Sure, the Antichrist Satan will hold it for a very short time, but at Christ's coming Satan will lose his power forever.

Psalms 102:22 "When the people are gathered together, And the kingdoms, to serve the Lord."

The Millennium age will be a blessed time for all the people will serve the Lord, and the kingdoms of this world will be the Lords. What a wonderful time that will be. Satan will be in the pit, and will not be around to tempt anyone, and we shall all be in our incorruptible bodies for the next thousand years. No sickness or any of the problems of this flesh age. Then the glory of the Lord shall flood the entire earth with His presence.

Psalms 102:23 "He weakened my strength in the way; He shortened my days."

Psalms 102:24 "I said, "O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: Thy years are throughout all generations."

Flesh man is just just a passing thing, just a breath of vapor that vanishes, but our Heavenly Father and those that follow Him will live throughout all eternity. God is what ever He wants to be, to whom ever He chooses to reveal Himself to, in any point in time. He is the "I AM THAT I AM". Don't put great priority on your flesh or any of the things that pertain to it, for it is not going to be around very much longer. Take care of it while your in the flesh, but know that this earth age of flesh and blood man will be over soon. Your soul is what is eternal; pay attention to the feeding of it, and take care of its health.

I Corinthians 15:50 "Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption."

When our Lord returns to set up His kingdom on earth, the time of these flesh and blood bodies will be over forever. "Corruption" is flesh, and "incorruption" will be our new bodies as the angels have, for the next thousand year kingdom.

I Corinthians 15:51-52 "Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."

The mystery that Paul is telling us about here comes at the sounding of the seventh trumpet, "the last trump". The change to our spiritual bodies will be faster then you can wink an eye, instantly. Then this time of Christ's kingdom will be here on earth for the next thousand years, before the time of the Great white throne Judgment.

Psalms 102:25 "Of old hast Thou laid the foundation of the earth: And the heavens are the work of Thy hands."

This verse now goes way back to the first earth, prior to Genesis 1:2, when the earth was created and it was good. Our Lord accomplished that, and for that He deserves our praise. Revelation 4:11 "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created." So even though this earth age of flesh man is quite short, some seven to ten thousand years, the earth itself is millions of years old.

Psalms 102:26 "They shall perish, but Thou shalt endure; Yea, all of them shall wax old like the garment; As a vesture shalt Thou change them, and they shall be changed:"

This states the two sides, for one shall perish, and the other shall endure to the end. One side is of Satan, which shall perish with Satan into the lake of fire, and the other shall have their name in the Lamb's book of life, and receive eternal life. Sure we have the right to make a choice, but at a certain point in time all the things of our flesh age will end. In a moment, faster than you can wink your eye, all souls living in their flesh bodies will be changed from this flesh corruptible body that grows old; into their new incorruptible bodies that never age. Not only will man be changed, but the very earth itself will be changed. Peter talked about this in II Peter 3:12, 13.

II Peter 3:12, 13 "Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?" "Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, where dwelleth righteousness."

The "elements" or rudiments of this earth age are the things that are of and sustain this flesh body, and those things will be done away with. We will all be living in another time and dimension right here on this earth, then the things that matter only to this earth will be completely gone, forever. After Satan and his followers are ashes in the lake of fire, then even the memory of our loved ones that chose to follow him, will be erased from our memory. It will be as if they had never existed in the first place. Do you get what this is saying? The things of the flesh just don't matter in the eternity, for it is the condition of your soul that matters. Our earth of today will be completely covered over, and in its place a new heaven and a new earth, with out those flaws and pollutions of this earth age. Revelation 21 gives us a complete picture of what this new heaven and new earth will be like.

Psalms 102:27 "But Thou art the same, And Thy years shall have no end."

Sure men and women change, and things of this earth age shall change, but rest assured, our Lord and Savior and His Word never changes. It is the only thing that we can count on in this changing world. He was the same yesterday, as He is today, and will be for eternity. You can count on every one of His promises.

Psalms 102:28 "The children of Thy servants shall continue, And their seed shall be established before Thee."

Through all generations God's servants shall be in every generation, right down to the coming of the Lord. Then when our Lord calls His children, those faithful to him that have passed on, will come with Him to be with those that were faithful to the end. What a glorious time it will be to be with the King of Kings, our Lord and Savior. The next Psalm carries the subject, the King is coming, and with it His Kingdom.

THE PSALMS
