Chapter 76

"Judgment. The Upright"

The prior Psalm told us of the destruction of the enemy of the Sanctuary, the enemy of the many membered body of Christ. God gives us examples in history to allow us to master the enemies of the Sanctuary in these end times. Now we move into the chapter dealing with the "smitings" and in this case, it is the smittings [Neginoth] of the enemy. It is also "a Psalm or Song of Asaph", which is to say, a collector of the congregation. It is the fifth Psalm of Asaph, and it tells about the gathering of the true congregation together.

This Psalms then has to do with the geographic location of Mount Zion. That is the location where the temple on the north side sits. This Psalm will tell of God's cleansing of that area, upon Christ's return at the seventh trump. On the day before our Lord went to the cross, as he left the Temple at this location he gave a warning to His disciples.

Matthew 24:1 "And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and His disciples came to Him for to shew Him the buildings of the temple."

Matthew 24:2 "And Jesus said unto them, "See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down."

So this has to do with that time when this city and temple shall be so completely destroyed that not one stone shall stand upon another. In a historical sense it also had to do with the city of Jerusalem when David defeated the Jebusites, and cleaned up that filthy city of Jebus, later known as Jerusalem. This event is recorded in Second Samuel 5:4-9.

Psalms 76:1 "In Judah is God known: His name is great in Israel."

This is calling attention that geographically speaking, the land that the old house of Judah controlled is the where Christ will be known and rule from. So we see that both houses are named here, the house of Judah, and the house of Israel. Israel is made up of the the ten tribes that were scattered by the Assyrians, and migrated through the Caucasus mountains, and later even to this day are known as Caucasians.

Psalms 76:2 "In Salem also is His tabernacle, And His dwelling place in Zion.

Salem was one of the ancient Jebusite names for Jerusalem. The Jebusites were in control of the city until David took it in battle and moved the tabernacle to that location. The word "Salem" means "peace", and is the foundation of the word Jeru-salem. "Jeru" in the Hebrew means "instruction, as pointing a finger"; and that should be a warning to us that our finger or attention should be pointed to this geographic location in these end times, to better understand the prophecies of our Heavenly Father.

Psalms 76:3 "There brake He the arrows of the bow, The shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah."

Stop and think of what has just been said, Selah. Historically, Jerusalem was the location of the defeat of the Jebusites in David's day; and it connects that thought with He that gave the victory, our heavenly Father.

Psalms 76:4 Thou art more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey."

Mount Zion is more glorious and excellent than the other mountains that exist around it.

Psalms 76:5 "The stouthearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep; And none of the men of might have found their hands."

The brave or stouthearted are spoiled, and have slept their last sleep. What this is saying is that God moved on them and they could not lift one finger to prevent God from doing what He will do to stop Him.

Psalms 76:6 "At Thy rubuke, O God of Jacob, Both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep."

The horsemen, and even the animals were stunned by God and put into a deep sleep.

Psalms 76:7 "Thou, even Thou, art to be feared: And who may stand in Thy sight when once Thou art angry?"

Though we are referring to a historical even, in the prophetic sense, God's wrath is building to be spewed over at one time, that time is at the seventh trumpet.

Psalms 76:8 "Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven; The earth feared, and was still,"

That Judgment that was heard was thunder.

Psalms 76:9 "When God arose to judgment, To save all the meek of the earth. Selah."

Stop and think deep as to what was just said, Selah. The "meek" are the ones that wait patiently for the coming of the Lord, and are not taken out of season by the Antichrist. They are the humble ones before the Lord. This Selah then connects God's judgment on Jebusites, and then making it a ground of praise to Almighty Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ. When our Lord returns shortly to wipe the wicked from that holy city, then that ground will be worthy of praise.

Psalms 76:10 "Surely the wrath of man shall praise Thee: The remainder of wrath shalt Thou restrain."

This "restrain" in the Hebrew text is "to gird" like you would gird yourself with a sword for protection. The message is to retain that for just a little while longer.

Psalms 76:11 "Vow, and pay unto the Lord your God: Let all that be round about Him bring presents unto Him That ought to be feared."

The "Lord your God" is your heavenly Father, He created you and He deserves your vows and respect. Pay the respect and honor that He is due. Your vow to Father should be your love to Him, and it should flow from your heart naturally. This is talking about your love that you owe to Him, for God doesn't hold people to Him by fear. So don't make it a negative thing.

Psalms 76:12 "He shall cut off the spirit of princes: He is terrible to the kings of the earth."

"To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun."

God will cut off the courage of all the princes of this earth, and the horns or power that the wicked have over His people. Our heavenly Father is awesome to the kings of this earth.
