Part 3
1 Sam 17:38
And Saul armed David with his armor, and he put an
helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a
coat of mail.
You don't have to be bright to know that this is not the
Gospel armor that Paul warned us of. There is only one
armor that the elect of God uses, and that is the armor
God has given in Ephesians 6:10-20. The armor of the
world will tie you up and weight you down to where you
can't make a move.
1 Sam 17:39
And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he
assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said
unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved
them. And David put them off him.
To "assayed" something means that you checked
it over real good, by putting it on and proving to
yourself that you can do battle with it on and in place.
Once David had the armor on, he knew immediately that the
king's armor was not right for him, it just would not
work. This sheep herder knew that not only could he not
wear the armor and swing the sword, but he would be crow
bait if that is what he wore to go up against the giant
for battle.
The point here for us today, is that we are to use common
sense when were are in a place of spiritual battle, and
use the appropriate spiritual armor that God has given us
from His Word. Those words are proved and will stand the
test of time, and they are backed up by our Lord's
promise to us, His elect. Just like David knew what was
needed for his battle, so also God's elect also know what
is necessary for the spiritual battle that we will face
in these end times.
1 Sam 17:40
And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five
smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a
shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his
sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the
Philistine.
41 And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David;
and the man that bare the shield went before him.
Five is the number of grace, and David chose those five
smooth stones. The brook today is the water of life, and
David was the shepherd of his father's sheep. This is
symbolic of that which is yet to come. David's script was
the purse that he carried. David prepared himself for the
battle against the giant, and he had all that was
necessary to go into that battle. He did not carry unnecessary baggage into battle.
David crossed that brook and he started his approach up
the other side of that hill to face the giant that wanted
to kill him.
1 Sam 17:41
And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he
disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of
a fair countenance.
Goliath's old shield is so heavy that he has to have
another man just to help carry his baggage and armor.
1 Sam 17:43
And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou
comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David
by his gods.
Goliath's gods were, of course Dagon and Baal, and to our
generation, it would be satan. The threats that come from
the enemy are spoken to intimidate the one's listening.
The time will come when those will stand there and curse
you and shout at you for the stand that you are taking.
Yet you will stand tall for God will give you the
victory. However it did not intimidate David for he knew
what he was armed with and he knew how to use the weapons
that were in his hand.
1 Sam 17:44
And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will
give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the
beasts of the field.
1 Sam 17:45
Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with
a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come
to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the
armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
You can have your swords and shields of this world's
warfare, but I come in the name of the Lord of hosts, the
God of Israel. David came in the name of the living God
Jesus Christ.
1 Sam 17:46
This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I
will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I
will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines
this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild
beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that
there is a God in Israel.
David knew exactly that the Lord would deliver Goliath
into his hand, and God is getting all the credit for the
victory. However, there was a purpose that all this had
happened, and there will also be a purpose that God will
give you the victory in our day. That purpose was that
all the people of the earth, in their flesh bodies would
know that there was a God in Israel.
Just a moment ago, this discussion was talking about
Russia and all the world, but here the only thing that
mattered is concerning whether the elect will do
something to bring Israel back to God. You had better
believe it for there is victory through the Father. This
story has become a fairy-tale story in our modern times,
but this is fact, it happened, and it is also a type of
what shall happen again in our day. It was not David that
accomplished it, but the Heavenly Father.
1 Sam 17:47
And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not
with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and
he will give you into our hands.
This message is to God's people. The battle of our day is
not going to be with sword and spear, for the battle is
the Lord's, it is a spiritual battle that will be fought
with the sword of the Lord, which is His Word. When you
remember that, the victory will be ours. This is a lesson
directed to our day, but there are many within our land
that have become so tied up with the armor, the money and
the politics of this world, that they have lost sight of
the battle at hand. The battle is the Lord's, and it is
fought just as God has told us that battle it fought in
His Words. The battle of our day is a spiritual battle
that is fought with words, ideas and precepts that come
right out of the Word of God.
Satan uses those Words to twist and change to deceive those that call themselves Christians, of the Lion of the
tribe of Judah, Jesus Christ. You can accumulate twenty
million dollars, and all the swords for every man's hand,
however if there is not one smart man in the bunch, that
knows how to fight a battle, it is all a waste. The
reason that there is not a smart man in the bunch is that
their traditions have blinded themselves, and they can't
read this with understanding.
The point that David was making and that is basic for our
day is that the Lord doesn't use swords and spears like
man to do his battles, He uses wisdom. Israel listened
and Israel learned the lesson that David gave to them on
that hillside. The next time you go into a spiritual battle with heavy weights of the religious world today,
think of that light headed boy out there on that ridge
facing the giant that wanted to destroy him. The same God
that protected David is there by your side to fight your
battle for you also. All it takes is you and the Lord, it
doesn't take a committee.
